MEADOWS RACING NETWORK TO DIE SLOW DEATH

By Ken Bonnell
The Weekly Recorder
April 18, 2008

Meadows Racing fans will not be able to see much local racing except on Mondays and Tuesdays due to thepurchase of HRTV network by Churchill Downs Racing. Churchill Downs will be emphasizing thoroughbred racing instead of harness racing. Magna Racing sold over 50% interest to Churchill Downs Racing. Comcast only supplies the airtime and they don’t have control over what is on HRTV.

This move appears to be part of the gradual demise of harness racing in the wake of the Casino being built. Combined with the Adios being held elsewhere, harness racing is in decline. John Marshall, the Meadows General Manager did not return a call for comment.
