US attorney general pressed for evidence clearing Trump

‘Conclusion – no collusion’: Trump says he hasn’t read Mueller Report, calls it ‘waste of time’

Democratic Lawmaker: ‘Some Things May Need To Be Redacted’ From Mueller Report

On Sunday, former federal prosecutor and MSNBC legal analyst Glenn Kirschner highlighted why President Donald Trump's Attorney General William Barr made a grave mistake in waiting for House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) to subpoena special counsel Robert Mueller's probe, rather than moving quickly to release it on his own terms.

Allegations last week that the USA justice chief played down serious evidence of illegal obstruction by Trump in special counsel Robert Mueller's final report are fueling demands that he release the entire, unexpurgated document to Congress. On Wednesday, Barr will discuss his agency's Fiscal Year 2020 budget request before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

So far, Barr has held firm to his stance that he will release this month more of the Mueller report, but a version stripped of evidence and of testimony given to Mueller's grand jury. "I fully agree. Special Counsel Mueller should come before the Committee to answer questions in public about his 22-month investigation into President [Donald] Trump and his associates", Nadler wrote Monday on Twitter.

However, Barr's interpretation is not trusted by many and leaks suggest Mueller's team is unhappy with what Barr has said. "Only know the conclusions, and on the big one, No Collusion."U.S. Attorney General William Barr has said he plans to make public a redacted copy of the almost 400-page investigative report into Russian interference in the 2016 election by the middle of this month, if not sooner".

At Tuesday's hearing, Barr will instead focus on combating violent crime, enforcing and improving immigration laws, and the opioid crisis, according to his prepared remarks - all key priorities over the next year, he says.

After receiving it, Barr sent a letter to lawmakers describing the conclusions reached in the Russian Federation investigation. Mueller's prosecutors always declined to comment.

The Democrat-led House Judiciary Committee this week prepared to subpoena the full report, a move that Mr Barr and the White House will nearly certainly contest.

Barr is now expected to release the entire report, with redactions, by mid-April.

Mr. Khanna said releasing the Mueller report is more important because "there are serious concerns of interference in our election that every American should be concerned about". That could include the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower in NY in which a Russian lawyer promised "dirt" on Clinton to senior campaign officials, as well as a secret January 2017 meeting in the Seychelles investigated as a possible attempt to set up a back channel between the incoming Trump administration and the Kremlin while Democrat Barack Obama was still president. Barr also has said he planned to redact material related to intelligence-gathering sources and methods.
