Tricia Newbold, an 18-year government employee who oversaw the issuance of clearances for some senior White House aides, says she compiled a list of at least 25 officials who were initially denied security clearances last year, but senior officials overruled those denials.
Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, the chairman of the Oversight Committee, complained this week that the administration has been unforthcoming as his committee has sought to investigate the security clearances.
In a letter to the White House on Monday, Cummings said Newbold detailed the cases of three anonymous "senior White House officials" whose clearances career officials recommended should be denied, though the White House went ahead and granted clearances to two of the three unnamed individuals.
"However, I was not surprised she had endured what must have been very painful procedures, so that she could gain more independence", Dionne said.
There's been particular scrutiny over Kushner's security clearance in recent months.
"We've had a lot of insane accusations, like that we colluded with Russia", Kushner told Fox and said he had "complied with all the different investigations" and had sat for almost 20 hours of interviews.Читайте также: CNN Panel Chides Biden For Joking About Touching People
This effort has been continued in recent weeks with a smaller four-person White House working group led by Kushner and could possibly generate a proposal for Congress this summer.
The two are reportedly on a first name basis, sharing texts and phone calls, and are said to have stayed up until almost 4am to speak during a personal visit Kushner made to Saudi Arabia in 2017.
The 2007 Yorktown High School graduate expressed her outrage at a House Oversight Committee hearing on Tuesday, April 2, calling for subpoenas for White House staffers because the administration is not cooperating with lawmakers. He has since left the White House for the Defense Department.
In a letter sent to the committee Monday after Cummings released Newbold's interview, Kline's lawyer said Monday that he would be willing to voluntarily appear before the committee. "I just don't know".
Even if Kushner were involved, she said she would not get into specifics because she respected individuals' right to privacy. Cummings said he wants to determine "whether this was a decision on this part - a decision on the president's part - but more significantly, why that decision was made".
Those clearances are based on extremely sensitive personal information, which Jordan says Cummings is hoping to exploit for political gain.
Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross sent a letter to Cummings Monday arguing a subpoena was premature because the department has turned over thousands of documents and he had already testified before the panel on the census issue.
Senate Majority leader and Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, in a recent message to supporters on Facebook, used Mueller to solicit funds for re-election, posting an image of Democratic leaders with the text "these investigations will never end" superimposed on them.
Ms Newbold told congressional investigators that in a third case she was pressured by Mr Kline to reverse a recommendation that the clearance application be rejected.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
