Two crashes, one in October previous year and another last month, killed 346 people and led to the grounding of the aircraft worldwide.

China Eastern Airlines announced it will claim losses from U.S. aircraft manufacturing giant Boeing after its 737 MAX fleet was grounded worldwide for safety reasons following the Ethiopian Airlines crash.

Employees walk by the end of a 737 Max aircraft at the Boeing factory in Renton, Washington, US on March 27, 2019.

Regulators around the world grounded the plane last month after an Ethiopian Airlines Max crashed less than five months after a Lion Air Max plunged into the sea off the coast of Indonesia.

The airline now expects a key measure of total revenue to be flat or grow by 1% during the first quarter, compared to previous forecasts of a 2% increase.

The Boeing Company said it delivered 149 commercial planes and 60 aircraft in its defence operations in the first quarter of 2019.

Deliveries are financially important because that is when plane makers receive the bulk of money from airlines' purchases.

China has made a decision to accept the invitation to join the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) review panel on the automated flight control system of the Boeing 737 MAX, said the country's top aviation regulator on Tuesday. "As part of this effort, we're making progress on the 737 MAX software update that will prevent accidents like these from ever happening again", the CEO said in his statement.

The company announced on April 5 that it would cut production of its 737 short-haul jetliner by 20 percent, to 42 a month, from the middle of this month.

The 737 Max, a new variant of the 737 family, is central to Boeing's future in its battle with Airbus and the likely workhorse for global airlines for decades.

Boeing is working on a fix to the anti-stall system, known as MCAS, in 737 Max 8 planes which preliminary reports suggest caused both the Lion Air and the Ethiopian Airlines flights to repeatedly nosedive.

March deliveries are more than half the rate of deliveries in the two previous months, which amounted to 24 MAX jets in January and 27 in February.
