Muslim Congresswoman Strikes Again, Facing New Anti-Semitism Charges

Rep. Juan Vargas of California, who sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee with Omar, called questioning USA relations with Israel "unacceptable".

The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, who has been openly critical of Rep. Ilhan Omar's (D-MN) comments about Israel, told CNN Tuesday evening he didn't want to kick Omar off the committee.

House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn of SC said he wants the resolution to be "anti-hate" to reject all forms of bigotry and prejudice.

The poster with a picture of the twin towers burning and Omar's face in front of it, said: "I am the proof you have forgotten".

Omar, one of two Muslim women in Congress, has declined to comment, but a series of remarks about U.S. -Israel policy have forced the Democrats to respond.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi acknowledged during a closed meeting on Wednesday that her caucus faces "internal issues" that require "a clearer understanding of what our objective is as a caucus", a knowledgeable Democratic aide told The Associated Press.

The draft of the resolution condemning bigotry has angered Omar's fellow freshmen and their progressive supporters.

"There are ongoing discussions with all the stakeholders in the House Democratic Caucus as to the appropriate way to proceed", said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of NY, the chairman of the caucus.

The California Republican said he heard on the floor Tuesday evening that Democrats can't pass their antisemitism resolution as written, even though it is not much different from antisemitism language Republicans got Democrats to agree to add to an unrelated measure on USA involvement in Yemen.

"I think you make more of it than there is. the press loves to foment unease in the Democratic Party but we are very united" about the party agenda, she said.

It's a clear continuation the Jackson estate's effort to discredit the documentary, and to rehabilitate Jackson's damaged legacy. Piers then chimed in with his own story about Jackson, in which he announced: "I interviewed him once over the telephone".

"First of all, it's not up to me, this is done by leadership", Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) said. It was to set out the history of anti-Semitism and other bigotry in America and provide examples of anti-Jewish tropes about divided loyalties.

The delay is a result of Democrats updating the resolution's language to emphasize a broader "anti-hate" message, House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., said Tuesday on Fox News.

He noted that Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) was stripped of his committee memberships after he made controversial comments about white supremacy, saying there's "no doubt" that there's a double standard at play.

Hanging over the internal debate among Democrats is political pressure from Republicans eager to position their party as the more reliable ally of Israel - and a more appealing choice for Jewish voters who have long trended Democratic. "That would have been fine", Vargas said of Ocasio-Cortez's response on Twitter.

At one point, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), a close Pelosi ally, pleaded with Democrats: "Everyone stop tweeting!".

Leaders of influential Jewish-American groups and a number of prominent Democratic lawmakers bristled at what they saw as a suggestion of dual loyalty, pointing out that charged has been used against Jews for centuries to marginalize them politically and socially. Then something interesting happened-among progressive groups (Muslim, Jewish, and unaffiliated alike), across media, and even to some extent in the halls of Congress, progressive voices grew louder in their defense of Omar. "It's something that we shouldn't question at all".
