Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal, Odisha and Sikkim will also be held simultaneously, the Election Commission (EC) said.

The Lok Sabha elections, 2019 will be held across the country in seven phases and the polling procedure starts with the 1st phase to be held on April 11.

He said model code of conduct for polls has come into immediate effect from Sunday and all political advertisements on social media will need pre-certification. Elections, after the dissolution of the state assembly, have to be held in the state before the end of May but Arora said Sunday that polls would not be held in J&K along with the Lok Sabha elections.

The Commission has chose to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) along with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at every polling station of all the States and Union Territories to enhance the transparency and credibility of the election process as VVPAT allows the voter to verify his / her vote.

The commission announced that it is introducing a mobile app for citizens to record any violation of code of conduct. The counting of votes took place on May 16.

The first phase of elections on April 11 covers the maximum number of states - 91 constituencies across 20 states.

Polls will be held on April 29 in a total of 71 constituencies spread across 9 states. The percentage of electors with EPIC and photographs in electoral rolls is likely to increase further before the elections with several states and UTs having already reported 100 per cent coverage, the EC said.

Polling for parliamentary and assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal and Sikkim will be held in the first phase on April 11.

Jammu and Kashmir will have five phases and West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will have seven phases.

Compared to 89,479 polling stations in 2014, this year there will be 95,473.
