Democrats’ anti-hate resolution won’t mention Ilhan Omar, Pelosi says

It's also worth remembering that it was only after a handful of Jewish Democrats, such as Eliot Engel, objected to Omar's comments that House Speaker Pelosi was forced to act - or rather, pretend to act.

Omar has become a lightning rod in Congress for comments on foreign policy, and especially U.S. policy toward Israel, that many in the Jewish community have deemed anti-Semitic.

They split sharply from Democratic leaders who seemed caught off guard by the support for Omar and unprepared for the debate.

In response, the Democratic party argued over whether Omar should be singled out and what other types of bias should be decried in the text of the House resolution.

Republicans generally joined in the favorable vote, though almost two-dozen opposed the measure, one calling it a "sham".
