LG V50 ThinQ Hands-On: LG's First 5G Smartphone

LG’s first 5G phone is the V50 ThinQ

LG G8 ThinQ announced with Hand ID palm unlock feature, coming soon to T-Mobile

Not really. The V50 ThinQ feels like a perfectly adequate way for LG to cash in on the 5G hype wave early, but honestly, I'm waiting for whatever the company has coming next. Instead of an LCD, it has a 6.1-inch OLED (3120x1440, 564ppi) panel, a Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6GB of RAM, a 3500mAh battery, and 128GB of storage.

The Z camera, LG touts also comes in helpful in improving portrait selfies (using the 8MP camera) as the infrared rays reflect off subjects resulting in lot more accurate and faster depth calculation. Everyone who's tried this says the feature is extremely finicky.

The Z Camera is responsible for 3D Face Unlock and Air Motion too, the latter allowing owners to perform functions - such as answering the phone or adjusting playback volume - without touching the phone, simply by using hand gestures. Sensors on the phone include Face unlock, Fingerprint sensor, Compass/ Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.

Venezuela cuts ties with Colombia
Guaido tweeted later Saturday that aid had reached Venezuelan territory, including an image of trucks blocked by the military. Civil defense officials in Colombia said at least 285 people had been injured in clashes at border bridge crossings.

Moving on from hand stuff, the rest of the LG G8's interest lies in its camera and audio tech.

That's true for the rear cameras as well, and just like the touchless controls, it works better than we'd expected. On the LG G8 ThinQ, you can stick your hand up for the front camera and it will identify you by veins in your hand.

Beyond optics, LG G8 ThinQ excels when it comes to multimedia performance as the first G series device from LG to feature OLED display technology. You'll notice in pictures of the phone that there is no earpiece speaker, as the display itself acts as a bone-conduction like headphone when using the device to place calls. It also emits sounds, together with the Boombox Speaker (LG introduced on the G7 ThinQ) which turns the entire phone's housing into a resonance chamber. LG is still figuring out which models will arrive in which markets though, so we don't yet know which versions will be available where. The display is protected with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass on top.

Dustin Johnson extends lead to four in WGC-Mexico Championship
The following three-putt was the first time ever in his PGA Tour career in which he as followed up a four-putt with a three-putt. On the final hole of his day, the par-four ninth, Woods drove into a trap. "D.J.is playing very well".

South Korea's LG Electronics unveiled Sunday its newly developed 5G-powered smartphone with dual screens - something similar to Samsung's recently unveiled foldable phone but with a different user interface. The display can be locked into two angles, 104-degrees and 180-degrees.

LG's flagships have struggled to crack the United Kingdom market of late, and we're not convinced that the G8 is likely to break that trend, but it's a welcome reminder that the company is making some of the best high-end phones out there - if you can get your hands on one.
