Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said in November that he kept similar cases in the back of his mind as he worked to find Jayme, including the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, who was 14 when she was taken from her Salt Lake City home in 2002.

Closs is the 13-year-old girl who vanished October 15 after her parents were fatally shot at their home about 60 miles to the south in Douglas County.

The neighbor shouted, "This is Jayme Closs!".

No gun or suspects were found at the scene and there was no sign of Jayme. From what she told them, they believed she was there for most of her disappearance.

Peter Kasinskas, a resident of Gordon, told CBS News he opened the door to his neighbor saying, "This is Jayme Closs", and asking him to call authorities. Jayme was quiet, her emotions "pretty flat", Peter Kasinskas said.

Police were called after the 13-year-old walked up to a stranger around 65 miles from where she went missing and asked for help on Thursday afternoon, according to reports.

Fitzgerald said he didn't know whether Patterson owned the home there or whether it was the only location where he had allegedly held the girl. During the 20 minutes Jayme was in their home, Peter and Kristin Kasinskas said they tried to make her feel more comfortable. Jayme was nowhere to be found.

"Praise the Lord", she said.

It's unclear how the suspect knew Jayme, Fitzgerald said.

"I'm going to hug her. Squeeze her", Naiberg told the Star-Tribune. She said she taught him middle school science but only remembered that he was quiet.

A suspect was taken into custody shortly after Jayme was found, authorities said.
