Kei Nishikori breaks staggering run of outs to take Brisbane title

Kei Nishikori had amassed quite the finals record by the time he stepped onto Pat Rafter Arena to take on rising Russian star Daniil Medvedev on Sunday night in Brisbane.

But Nishikori, who had lost nine consecutive ATP finals over 52 tournaments in almost three years, broke the Russian player's serve on four consecutive points in the final game to clinch the match in just 2 hours, 6 minutes, at Pat Rafter Arena. "I served well, I returned well - I think that was the key today - and I was moving well, that was fantastic".

"I think today was probably one of the most ideal matches I've ever played in my career", said Vekic.

The Frenchman failed to realize any of his two break points chances in the second game of the second set. "I feel like I didn't really know how to cope with not playing well", Osaka said.

"He played incredible", Medvedev said of Nishikori.
