According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Browns reportedly dialed it down to two finalists for their head coaching position in Kitchens and Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski.

Kitchens served as the Browns' offensive coordinator from Week 9 on this past season, and oversaw improvement in the team's offense, sparked by increased reliance on Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb. Jackson only won three games in his two and a half years as head coach.

Kitchens began the year as a running backs coach for the Browns, and has been coaching in the National Football League as an assistant since 2006. The Browns also went up from 20 to 12 in rushing efficiency and 29 to second overall offensively, but the main reason Kitchens is now given the keys to the entire team is his relationship with Mayfield, and how important that is to the future of the Browns.

One likely reason that the Browns made a decision to keep Kitchens was because of his relationship with Baker Mayfield. The 30th-ranked offense by DVOA upon Jackson and Haley's exit, the Browns eventually finished the season ranked 17th. Previous special teams coordinator Amos Jones and Kitchens have a long history of serving together, but it is safe to say that the city of Cleveland and Browns fans everywhere were not disappointed to see him dismissed and hope him the best as he will probably skip to Tampa Bay with Arians as well.
