‘Super Wolf Blood Moon’: How to see this weekend’s total lunar eclipse

Cotton seeds planted on the far side of the Moon have sprouted for the first time, according to the Chinese space agency. They also included rapeseed, potato seed, rock cress, yeast and fruit flies with soil in the canister to see if these crops could provide additional resources for food and clothing on the moon. The greatest challenge according to Chinese scientists is the constant weather changes on the moon.

"In the past, we were always rushing to catch up to the advanced global standards" in space, said Wu Weiren, the chief designer of China's lunar exploration project.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations shared its glee on Twitter, saying, "China's moon mission success means that astronauts could potentially harvest their own food in space!" Tupperware Helps NASA To Grow Vegetables in Space To Improve Astronauts' Diet.

The Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) released images on Tuesday showing how cotton seeds taken to the lunar surface by the lander have sprouted.

That makes it the first truly otherworldly plant in history. Professor Liu Hanlong, head of the experiment, stated in the seed sprout announcement, "We have given consideration to future survival in space".

Until this experiment, the researchers said they weren't sure it was possible to grow plants in a low gravity environment. - China will seek to establish an global lunar base one day, possibly using 3D printing technology to build facilities, the Chinese space agency said on January 14, weeks after landing the rover on the moon's far side.

But it's also a supermoon, where the moon is at its closest point to Earth. It also plans to send an unmanned mission to Mars in 2020.

China Imported Record Gas in December
Exports growth in 2018 was the highest in 7 years, surging 9.9 percent while imports grew 15.8 percent compared with last year. But the buying fell off previous year after China imposed a 25 percent retaliatory tariff on the commodity in the summer.

Pictures sent back January 12 showed plant shoots growing well nine days after the experiment was initiated, Chongqing University, which led the biological project, said in a briefing Tuesday.

The space agency is already looking ahead to its next lunar mission, Chang'e 5, which is created to collect lunar samples and bring them back to Earth.

While China has insisted that the probe prevents any organisms on its lunar lander from contaminating the surface, earlier space explorers were not so cautious.
