Kevin Spacey to appear in court to plead not guilty to the sexual assault charge

Spacey due in court over sexual assault claims

On Monday, Kevin Spacey appeared in Nantucket, Massachusetts District Court, where he was formally arraigned on charges of felony sexual assault.

Actor Kevin Spacey will plead not guilty to indecent assault and battery charges at the Nantucket court today.

Spacey, dressed in a gray coat over a dark blazer and tie, was not asked for his plea during the brief arraignment in a crowded Nantucket courtroom, but his lawyer entered the denial on Spacey's behalf.

His next court date is March 4, and he does not have to be physically present as long as he is available by phone.

Spacey and his lawyers declined to comment as they left the courthouse amid a crush of reporters.

Fire in Poland kills 5 girls locked in home-based escape room
President Andrzej Duda said on Twitter it was a "crushing tragedy", and Koszalin's Mayor has declared a day of mourning. Escape rooms across Poland are now being inspected for safety, under orders from Poland's interior minister.

It is the first criminal case brought against Spacey since other allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him in 2017.

Authorities say Spacey got an 18-year-old bus boy drunk, and fondled the teen under his trousers without consent, while visiting The Club Car in Nantucket, Massachusetts in July 2016. Jackson also implied that the groping could have been consensual, noting that the young man reported that it last for three full minutes. Spacey said he had no memory of the event, but publicly apologised before issuing an "absolute" denial of all other allegations. The teen told police that he sent his girlfriend a video of the incident, which she confirmed.

Judge Thomas Barrett warned the gallery not to disrupt the proceedings with cellphones or electronics as Spacey peered around the room smirking. He told police that Spacey bought him a bunch of drinks, and tried to convince him to go back to his house.

"Coming out stories should not be used to deflect from allegations of sexual assault", Sarah Kate Ellis, president and chief executive officer of GLAAD tweeted at the time.

On the same day he was charged in December, Spacey released a weird YouTube video in which he spoke in character as House of Cards' Frank Underwood to deny the allegations.

The American star became embroiled in controversy in the wake of the #MeToo movement, after actor Anthony Rapp accused him of trying to seduce him in 1986 when Rapp was 14.

In a Twitter statement, Spacey said he did not remember the incident but offered an apology.
