'I approve this message': Oprah makes rare political appearance in support of Georgian candidate

The vice president made the remarks in the wake of both Oprah and Ferrell trying to get out the vote for Kemp's opponent Democrat Stacey Abrams.

Winfrey shot down reports that she is planning to run for president.

"I'm encouraged to see so many young voters showing up at the polls, and I'm also encouraged to see that we have a growing pool of independent voters who I think will break for democrats during this election", she said. "I don't want to go in those waters".

Oprah also hosted two town halls with Abrams during her trip.

Former U.S. President and Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter asked Kemp to resign his position as Georgia's secretary of state, saying his role in state government imperiled popular confidence in the election.

She said that she called Abrams up and offered to make campaign appearances for her. Winfrey said to Abrams: "You keep standing strong for the values that matter to me, and the values that matter to Georgians all over this state". I don't want to run, okay?

"I am here today because Stacey Abrams cares about the things that matter", Winfrey said.

Winfrey's first dive into the political arena came in 2007, when she endorsed Barack Obama and campaigned for him in SC and other states.

He declared that he had "a message for all of Stacey Abrams' liberal Hollywood friends: This ain't Hollywood".

She encouraged black and female voters to go to the polls, telling them that "for anybody here who has ancestor who didn't have right to vote. you are dishonoring your family".

The Georgia Department of Economic Development said there were 320 films and TV shows shot in the state past year, generating an economic impact of $9.5 billion, including $2.7 billion in direct spending.

"We now talk to more than 700 voters on an average day, and call volume has picked up considerably", Democratic Party of Georgia spokesman Seth Bringman said of their voter protection hotline.
