Secret Service: Suspicious packages sent to Clintons, Obamas

Sources say the package is similar to ones that were sent Wednesday to several high-profile Democratic figures and the New York City offices of CNN.

The package addressed to Biden - the ninth this week - was discovered as a device was removed from a Lower Manhattan property belonging to Robert De Niro.

The official said another package addressed to Biden was also found Thursday morning, that one at a postal center in New Castle, Delaware.

"New York Police swarmed a building associated with the Hollywood actor in Tribeca early Thursday morning after the suspicious package was found", the Daily Mail reported.

It follows several packages sent to former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as news organization CNN, Hilary Clinton, and John Brennan.

At least eight parcels were intercepted before reaching any intended recipients, including Obama's attorney-general, Eric Holder, former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan and prominent Democratic Party donor George Soros.

Distillate inventories were down this week by 2.4 million barrels, compared to a larger expected draw of 1.927 million barrels. If US crude drops below US$65, a psychologically important figure, that could trigger further technical selling, traders said.

The NYPD bomb squad responded and examined the device under an X-ray. The bombs were unstable and could have been set off just by handling, sources said.

The motive is unknown, but the recipients are all prominent targets of right-wing criticism and, in many cases, of Trump himself.

"A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News", Trump tweeted.

A package containing a "live explosive device", according to police, received at the Time Warner Center which houses the CNN New York bureau, in New York City, is shown in this handout picture provided October 24, 2018. It was addressed to Robert De Niro and is similar packaging to the others.

There has been no claim of responsibility.

On Wednesday night, President Donald Trump condemned the apparent act of terror.

The president tweeted that mainstream media must "clean up its act".

The package, found on the seventh floor of 375 Greenwich St.in New York City's Tribeca neighborhood, was reported to police around 4:45 a.m. The five packages discovered Wednesday all had a similar return address: That of Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, but with her name misspelled.

The location was described as a "secure facility" by NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill.

Police said the package had been delivered either Tuesday or Wednesday, WCBS said.

He also called for more civility in public life, saying: "Those engaged in the political arena must stop treating political opponents as being morally defective".
