REPORT Cavs Heat Both Deep In Jimmy Butler Trade Talks

Butler would likely be a fit with Heat coach Erik Spoelstra's defense-first style, but Miami was not on his initial list of preferred destinations.

The Timberwolves held their media day on Monday and Butler was excused from participating, but he did take his physical.

The deal will pay Towns, 22, more than he could make with any other team under a rule in the collective bargaining agreement that allows teams to pay a home-grown player coming off his rookie contract 35 percent of the National Basketball Association salary cap.

Everyone from the Miami Heat to Cleveland Cavaliers to Detroit Pistons and the Houston Rockets are supposedly interested.

Thibodeau, it seems, is hoping Butler will at least consider playing out that free-agency season in Minnesota.

There were possible rumors that Butler would be traded by late-Sunday night, but alas that didn't happen and here we are waiting for the Wolves to make a decision. There have been bubbles of optimism that Taylor has convinced Layden and Thibodeau to follow his edict to trade Butler soon, but those have so far given way to renewed uncertainty and hazy chains of communication. Glen, Scott, myself, I think we've made that clear to everyone.

And he still believes the Swiss can turn out to be a good player for Liverpool as he has the ability to turn games on his own. Klopp was asked about that on Tuesday, and said: "He said we are one year ahead?" "You need to get used to it".

With the Jimmy Butler saga ongoing, the Minnesota Timberwolves faced the media on Monday afternoon and addressed the particulars for the first time in a public forum.

The Timberwolves signed wing Andrew Wiggins, a No. 1 draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014, to a max contract before last season, four years for a guaranteed $147.7 million.

Information from ESPN's Zach Lowe was used in this report.
