Owaisi's demand came after former French president Francois Hollande said that it was the Indian government who proposed Reliance Defence as the partner for Dassault Aviation for the deal and that he had nothing to do with it.

"We didn't have a say on the subject".

The report in Mediapart, a French language publication, quoted Hollande as saying, "It was the Indian government that proposed this service group, and Dassault which negotiated with Ambani".

On Friday, 21 September, the former French president Francois Hollande told a French newspaper that France was not given an option of choosing a local partner for Dassault Aeronautics.

The French government also released a statement, saying it was not involved in the choice of the Indian partner and that French companies had complete freedom to select Indian firms for the offset part of the deal.

"Her position is untenable & she must resign", the Congress chief said.

He further said that the life-cycle costs of the aircraft would have been cheaper if they had been made in India.

BJP president Amit Shah, too, attacked Gandhi over his remarks.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi's recent speeches testify that he is anything but consistent. Pakistan says "Modi Hatao".

"Defence Minister has been called out again!" Shortly after Hollande's remarks, the French government and Dassault Aviation, the French aircraft manufacturer have since issued statements respectively.
