Eliud Kipchoge raised the bar for marathon runners across the globe on Sunday, setting an extraordinary time of 2:01:39 and beating a 2014 world record by compatriot Dennis Kimetto, which was also set in Germany's capital.
For months before the race, Kipchoge has maintained that he was focused on winning in Berlin.
A proud Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta congratulated Kipchoge, and his fellow countrymen - second-placed Amos Kipruto and third-placed Wilson Kipsang - as the East African trio made a podium sweep.
Following his superb performance, the 33-year-old said that he would defend his title in 2019 hoping to break his current record.
Manafort Strikes Deal to Cooperate with Mueller Investigation
In August, Manafort's attorneys filed a motion requesting the trial be moved from Washington to Roanoke, Virginia. Another danger for Trump is that the Manafort deal will prompt others to sing to Mueller.
"I lack words to describe this day", Kipchoge said (via the Associated Press) of a time that sounds more like a commute than an athlete feat. "Running a sub two hours two minutes was simply fantastic and I believe I can still go below that with such good conditions". "I am just so incredibly happy to have finally run the world record as I never stopped having belief in myself".
With weather conditions flawless and virtually no wind, it was clear after the opening few kilometres that Kipchoge's only opponent would be the clock and his three pacemakers were pushed to the limit to keep the tempo high as Kipchoge dipped well below world-record time by the halfway mark.
Cherono won in 2:18:11, breaking the previous course record (2:19:12, Mizuki Noguchi, 2005) by over a minute.
Another Kenyan, Edna Kiplagat finished fourth in 2:21:18.
California Gov. Jerry Brown signs renewable energy bill
He continued, "California is committed to doing whatever is necessary to meet the existential threat of climate change ". Brown also says moving toward a regional electric grid is critical to California meeting its goals.
Kipchoge ran 5km in 14:24 - which was 1:26 faster than world record pace - and passed under the 10km barrier in 29:01.
Race organizers initially timed Kipchoge a second slower but later corrected the time.
This latest triumph is certain to earn Kipchoge - considered the greatest marathon runner of all time - atleast Sh100 million in prize money and bonuses. As he he's done in his other major victories, Kipchoge smiled through any signs of pain by the time he hit 40K in 1:55:32.
He won the London Marathon for a third time earlier this year and is the Olympic champion over the distance. Usually stoic and reserved, he pumped his arms and crossed the finish line in 2:01:40 to cut one minute and 17 seconds off Kimetto's record. It certainly will go down as one of greatest spectacles the sport of running has ever seen, and will likely be a record that will stand for many years to come in the marathon.
