Later in the day, Trump ordered the FBI to reopen its investigation into Kavanaugh's background and the Senate, by voice vote, took an initial step to move ahead with the nomination.

"A thorough FBI investigation is critical to developing all the relevant facts", attorney Debra Katz said in a statement released Friday evening.

Kavanaugh wouldn't answer directly when he was asked Thursday if he would agree to an FBI investigation, but said he would do whatever the Judiciary Committee wanted.

Flake said the committee heard "compelling testimony from Dr. Ford, as well as a persuasive response from Judge Kavanaugh", and he left the hearing yesterday with "as much doubt as certainty".

Through tears, they implored him to change his mind about his Kavanaugh vote. Kavanaugh has emphatically denied all allegations against him.

"I believe Professor Ford". A background investigation is, by its nature, more limited than a criminal investigation, and FBI agents will not be able to obtain search warrants or issue subpoenas to compel testimony from potential witnesses.

Pompeo to travel to North Korea next month to revive nuclear talks
After holding his third summit with Kim last week, Moon traveled to the U.S. to relay Kim's message to Trump. The primary goal of the second US-North Korea summit is to break the stalemate over denuclearization.

"They have to do what they think is right", Trump said.

Another Kavanaugh accuser also alleges that Judge and Kavanaugh sought on multiple occasions in high school to drug inebriated girls for nonconsensual sex with multiple boys - an accusation Kavanaugh has strongly denied.

The allegations against the Supreme Court nominee were put on display on Thursday in riveting testimony before the Senate committee when Christine Blasey Ford told her side of events that occurred decades ago and Kavanaugh delivered a defiant rebuttal.

Listening to Kavanaugh was just as hard as listening to Ford, Mendler said, but the experiences of hearing the two speak, at times in tears and with their voices shaking, was very different.

Ford's attorney has applauded Trump's decision, calling a thorough Federal Bureau of Investigation probe "critical" in establishing the truth. Three women have accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, miring the nomination in controversy.

"I will be voting no on Judge Kavanaugh's nomination".

Rachel Mitchell Goes to Washington - and It Doesn't Go Well
Committee chairman Chuck Grassley had broken into a conversation between Ford and prosecutor Rachel Mitchell, who was doing the questioning.

Ms. Mitchell asked if any one has come forward to say "Hey, I was at that party too."?

"Two men came forward and said they may have had an encounter with Dr. Ford", said Taylor Foy, spokesman for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), when asked whether the committee reported the men to law enforcement.

"I need to go to my hearing".

Moments later, the full committee voted on Kavanaugh's nomination, and it advanced, as expected, along party lines.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democratic member of the Judiciary Committee from Rhode Island, said he expects the FBI would provide adequate staffing for the investigation, with teams working in parallel to investigate separate allegations.
