Michael Cohen admits under oath Trump told him to break electoral law

President Donald Trump is suggesting that it should be illegal for people facing prosecution to cooperate with the government in exchange for a reduced sentence.

"I'll tell you what, if I ever got impeached, I think the the market would crash".

"He was a lawyer for me, one of many", Trump said. "You would see - you would see numbers that you wouldn't believe in reverse".

The White House and Trump have insisted that the president has done nothing wrong relating to the hush money.

With crucial House elections just 75 days away, last night one of the president's biggest supporters, Sean Hannity, also highlighted to his viewers that if Democrats win in November, the president will nearly certainly be impeached.

But Cohen's testimony, coupled with the conviction of Trump's former campaign chairman on eight financial charges Tuesday, has increased the prospects that Democrats would seek to oust the president should they take the House - where impeachment proceedings must begin.

In the interview, Trump argued, incorrectly, that the hush-money payouts weren't "even a campaign violation" because he subsequently reimbursed Cohen for the payments personally instead of with campaign funds.

In his first public comments, back in April, about his alleged affair with Stormy Daniels, Mr Trump denied knowing about the $130,000 (£100,000) payment made to the actress via Cohen.

"Pecker's apparent decision to corroborate Cohen's account, and implicate Trump in a federal crime, is another vivid example of how isolated Trump is becoming", Sherman added, pointing out that Pecker and Trump had been close friends for years. "For 30, 40 years I've been watching flippers".

Trump is also part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election by hacking Democrats. He said recently he knew about payments "later on".

That tool "almost ought to be outlawed".

But after Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations on Tuesday, Waters couldn't control herself.

Cohen was investigated after a referral to the U.S. Attorney's office for the Southern District of NY from special counsel Robert Mueller, who is heading up the investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election.
