Впервые в истории США трансгендер может стать губернатором

It's time to energize the elephants

The nation's first transgender governor, its first Somali-American woman in Congress and its first black woman in Connecticut's congressional delegation could all be on the horizon after Tuesday's slate of four primaries.

Vermont and three other states - Connecticut, Minnesota, and Wisconsin - were holding primaries Tuesday.

She will face incumbent Gov. Phil Scott and stands to become the first openly trans governor in the country. She transitioned in 2015 while she was CEO of the Vermont Electric Cooperative, a power utility that she helped turn around.

And even though she's getting media attention for her gender, the political hopeful believes that it's her policies, which include better wages, clean energy, and human rights, that will inspire Vermonters to vote for her.

Hallquist is running on her managerial abilities, and has promised to boost economic development in rural Vermont by expanding broadband access.

"Because she is open and authentic about the fact that she is transgender, that immediately takes away all the questions, all the whispers, and instead allows people to focus on her personality and what she wants to do", said Elliot Imse, communications director for the Victory Fund. "People are liking what they're hearing and that's what's really cool about Christine".
