Khartoum: All systems ready for South Sudan peace deal

Khartoum: South Sudan government and rebels reach peace deal

President Uhuru Kenyatta Wednesday met Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Sudan, who briefed the Head of State on the progress being made towards the restoration of peace and stability in South Sudan especially as regards the recent Khartoum Peace Agreement.

South Sudan descended into civil war in late 2013, and the conflict has created one of the fastest growing refugee crises in the world.

South Sudan's almost five year conflict began after Kiir accused his sacked vice president Machar of plotting a coup against him in 2013.

Once a final peace deal is signed, the foes will have three months to form a transitional government under the new format, which will then hold power for a further 36 months.

"The agreement we have just signed today must map the end of conflict and war in our country", Kiir said after signing the deal.

Longtime Manafort deputy Rick Gates admits embezzlement
According to multiple news outlets , Gates was asked on Monday if he was involved in criminal activity when working with Manafort. Gates testified that he and Manafort had 15 foreign accounts they did not report to the US government, and knew that was illegal.

The power-sharing deal stipulates that there will be 35 ministers in the bloated transitional government, including 20 Kiir allies and nine backers of Machar along with representatives of other rebel factions.

The parliament will be comprised of 550 lawmakers, including 332 from Kiir's group and 128 from Machar's faction.

Mr. Kiir and Mr. Machar have already agreed to a permanent ceasefire and to withdraw their troops from urban areas.

"Last month the White House warned that "a narrow agreement between elites" would not solve the problems plaguing South Sudan".

"We, however, remain committed to the strategic partnership between our country and theirs and we will not give up", Raila said on his Twitter page.

China Plans Tariffs on $60 Billion of Imports to Counter Trump
Taken in totality, the new Chinese proposals will cover $ 60 billion in U.S. imports. "They are really hurting their economy". Trump has ultimately threatened tariffs on over $500 billion in Chinese goods, covering virtually all US imports from China.

A similar arrangement fell apart in July 2016 when fighting erupted in the capital, Juba, and Machar fled the country.

"My government and I know the conflict in South Sudan has resulted in a financial and political burden", Kiir said. "So there are so many things need to be done".

Juma said it is disheartening that South Sudan is not taking the trajectory of development as expected after attaining independence in 2011.

"As we have done, we shall continue to walk with you from this moment of great expectation to the full implementation of a Revitalized Agreement", President Kenyatta said.
