President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have wrapped up their historic summit after the two spent more than four hours talking and emerged to sign a document.

But while Trump, and Kim, regularly stray off diplomatic scripts, a larger risk may be that there may be no full transcript, public or secret, of what the two leaders discussed. If we withdraw our forces and that's part of the deal, I can't support the deal. "Leaving dark days of war and conflict behind, we will write a new chapter of peace and cooperation".

Kim's top officials sat with him while Trump had his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and National Security Adviser John Bolton.

But some questioned whether Kim would fully relinquish the weapons he may consider his only guarantee of survival. "I'm very open-minded to security agreements and to economic incentives to North Korea".

Kim may have best summed up the surreal quality of what was happening when he said that many of those watching will think it's a scene from a "science fiction movie". "Did Kim Jong-un just make a vague Iron Sky reference?"

"We'll meet again. We will meet many times". "But despite of all that, we've made it here", said Mr Kim. "Of course, the devil is in the detail, and we have yet to delve into specifics". The US president wanted to score his first major foreign policy achievement, with his tenure in office, so far, marked by growing tensions with neighbours and allies as well as a massive collapse in US global influence.

"3. Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work towards the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

With Trump and Kim both known for making exaggerated, if not entirely false claims, those notes could be key to understanding Kim as a leader and furthering plans for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Last week, Trump told reporters that it would be easy to tell if a deal was possible with Kim in the first minute of the meeting. Should they succeed, it could bring lasting change to the security landscape of Northeast Asia, like the visit of former U.S.

At the signing ceremony, Trump said it was "a very important document, pretty comprehensive document".

"We don't know what type of person the North Korean leader is negotiating with".

Trump last month pulled the United States out of a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, calling it deeply flawed and reimposing unilateral sanctions.

The signing came after a one on one meeting between Kim and Trump which was followed by an expanded bilateral meeting with their aides and a working lunch.
