Rapper XXXTentacion was shot to death in Miami, the Broward County Sheriff's Department reported.

Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy was just 20 years old. The rapper was rushed to a hospital but his condition isn't known, according to TMZ.

The star was transported to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

Monday night, police were still combing through the rapper's vehicle as people watched from behind crime scene tape.

Prominent figures from the music world and beyond are expressing shock and sadness at the shooting death of 20-year-old rap breakout XXXTentacion earlier today.

Authorities later confirmed the victim's identity to be XXXTentacion. News that the deadly shooting took place at around 4 P.M.in Deerfield Beach.

Broward County deputies are actively looking for the two men and asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward, the officer said.

"Despite the controversy, the rapper had developed a loyal following and his second album, "?", debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart in March. "God bless his family, friends and fans", wrote J. Cole.

XXXTentacion has faced several legal issues and was now awaiting trial on charges that he beat his pregnant girlfriend.

Regarding a June 2017 attack at a San Diego concert, the following messages were posted on XXXTentacion's Twitter account: "security and venue set me up, I got sucker punched and knocked out, it is what it is".

"His latest album "?" premiered at number one when it was released in March, according to Billboard's website. After a brief time in jail, he was released on house arrest after a judge granted him permission to go on tour.

The controversial rapper has previously made headlines for a music video that depicted the "lynching" of a young white boy and he was one of the artists who Spotify removed from playlists based on its policy of removing "hate content".

Eyewitnesses told the publication that they heard multiple shots fired, after which the rapper "appeared lifeless with no pulse".
