US President Donald Trump has officially disclosed reimbursing his personal lawyer Michael Cohen, who paid a porn star "hush money" over her claims of an affair with Mr Trump.

Trump's financial disclosure, released by the Office of Government Ethics, did not specify the goal of the payment.

"In 2016, expenses were incurred by one of Donald J. Trump's attorneys, Michael Cohen", read a footnote on the form, which was released by the Office of Government Ethics.

Cohen is now faced with a federal investigation into his business dealings and the payment he made to an adult film star who claimed to have an affair with Trump in 2006.

"Mr Cohen sought reimbursement of those expenses and Mr Trump fully reimbursed Mr Cohen in 2017", it said.

The Washington Post reported late Wednesday that Cohen had solicited a $1 million payment from the Qatari government in 2016 in exchange for access to the incoming Trump administration.

Michael Cohen, who worked for Trump for about a decade, and real estate executive Felix Sater tried to facilitate a deal in Russian Federation that would allow Trump to build a property that had long alluded his global business empire.

And this month, Mr. Avenatti took the unusual step of posting leaked financial records that he said showed that Mr. Cohen received money from a firm linked to a Russian oligarch.

The form also shows the President's golf courses missed par past year earning $67 million less than before he took office. Revenue at Trump's Palm Beach resort, Mar-a-Lago, fell to $25 million from $37 million in the previous 16 months, as almost two dozen charities canceled fundraising events at the club in the wake of Trump's controversial remarks about a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, last August.
