7 inmates are dead and 17 inmates are being treated after an incident at Lee Correctional Institution in SC.

Though most of the autopsies have yet to be performed, it appears that numerous prisoners died from stabbing or slashing wounds from "shanks", Lee County Coroner Larry Logan said.

"The folks who are incarcerated are gonna continue their criminal ways behind bars, which is not only unsafe inside our institutions, but it's also risky outside our institutions", Stirling said.

All SCDC staff and responding law enforcement officers are safe and accounted for.

The inmates who were killed during an incident at Lee Correctional Institution have been identified as RAYMOND ANGELO SCOTT, MICHAEL MILLEDGE, DAMONTE MARQUEZ RIVERA, EDDIE CASEY JAY GASKINS, JOSHUA SVWIN JENKINS, COREY SCOTT, CORNELIUS QUANTRAL MCCLARY. Corrections officials say Lee Correctional Institution was secured at 2:55 AM following an incident which started at 7:15 PM.

He said the victims in those cases matched the general profile of the first seven alleged victims, but did not elaborate. Idsinga said the remains were the seventh and final set found inside planters located at a home on Mallory Crescent.

The circumstances of the seven deaths are now under investigations.
