That's still 3.0-liters, like the old vehicle, but it now pushes out 410 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.

As a result, the BMW M2 Competition can go from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds with the optional seven-speed M DCT automatic. The key difference between the standard M2 and M2 Competition is the engine.

BMW has a penchant for producing excellent sports cars, especially elegant coupes combining sharp exterior design with white-knuckle driving dynamics. Top speed is 155 miles per hour as standard, but can be unlocked to 174 miles per hour with the optional M Driver's Package.

Rather than lower the trade deficit, as Trump has called for, the USA trade actions could expand it by $150 billion by 2019, he said.

Despite its performance focus, the M2 Competition isn't short of bells and whistles inside, offering BMW's ConnectedDrive digital services that include concierge, real-time traffic information and emergency call features when you need them.

The Competition's stability control has been recalibrated to allow greater driver freedom than before - M Dynamic mode allows more wheelspin for drifting and powersliding on track. These come in the form of the M Sport system, which have larger pads (400mm at the front and 380mm at the rear) coupled with a six-piston caliper for the front and two fewer pistons for the rear.

Other visual changes include new M-style exterior mirror housings similar to those on the M3 and M4 as well as lightly reworked tail-lights, an altered rear bumper and, as standard in the United Kingdom, new 19in forged alloy wheels shod with 245/35-profile (front) and 265/35 (rear) Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

Harnessing the extra power is a new carbon fibre under-bonnet brace from the M3 and M4, which works with the M4's bulkhead strut to significantly increase rigidity at the front of the auto, improving steering behaviour and precision. It also gets black bat-wing-style side mirrors, a blackened treatment for the four exhaust tips and good-looking new 19-inch alloy wheels in a choice of finishes. Both cars can be ordered from mid-May, but customer deliveries aren't expected until August. On the center console, there are switches that control settings for the engine, steering, stability control, and the dual-clutch.

The interior arrangement of the M2 Competition is slightly different. The illuminated M2 logo nestles in the backrest of the M Sport seat. The chassis featured a host of improvements to harness most of the added power.

So what's new? Well, the price has gone up - by around £3000 to a starting price of £49,285 now - but power has gone up too, from 365 to 404bhp (that's 370 to 410ps).
