Apple targets schools with new iPad, apps

A new report purportedly coming from "people with knowledge of the matter" says Apple is working on bringing curved screens to its smartphones, a move which may happen in around 2-3 years. Unlike Samsung's technology that uses a sensor embedded in the top bezel, Apple is looking at integrating proximity sensing into displays.

Whether either of these features ever gets implemented into a single iPhone remains a mystery, so for now, all we can do is speculate.

The new videos were released in conjunction with the new $329 iPad, the first non-Pro model to feature support for Apple Pencil. Another video demonstrates how to pause mid-way through email composition to open a new email without losing the current work.

As per the report, a curved screen iPhone with touchless gestures could arrive in the next two to three years. To stay ahead, Apple needs compelling new features and designs. This would involve a screen where the actual middle of the display is lower than the top and bottom edges, resembling LG's Flex smartphone to an extent. Both the projects are reportedly in their early stages of research and development. In February, Sony demonstrated a 120-inch display at Integrated Systems Europe 2018 that uses microLED and Crystal LED technologies.

This would mark a big shift in the look and feel of the iPhone, though we are certainly excited to see what this opens up for future designs. Samsung has also used curved displays for its flagship phones for a while now. Apple is already planning to roll it out for upcoming iPhone models due out later this year.
