Uber Health Will Drive You To Doctor's Appointments

The platform, Uber Health, will allow healthcare providers to assign rides for their patients - ensuring they can access care and are safely returning home.

Coordinators working for the healthcare organizations will be able to schedule individual appointments for patients, caregivers and staff, or repeat rides for those who need it.

Rather than operating through an app, Uber Health will send passengers their ride information via text message. "Even if a platform is HIPAA-compliant, providers risk potential imposition of stiff penalties for data breaches, and business associate agreements should be implemented between providers and ridesharing companies", legal consultants from Carlton Fields wrote in a 2016 note entitled "Offering Ridesharing Services to Patients: Uber Risky?"

Uber said more than 100 healthcare organization in the United States have been using Uber Health in a beta program and that the full service goes live on Thursday.

As far as monetization goes, Uber claims there is "no additional service fee" associated with using Uber Health.

"This is something that you don't have to have a smartphone to use it, you don't even have to have a cellphone at all, so that opens up the world of Uber to a much broader group of people".

Numerous rides are provided to people who can't drive-either because of age, poverty or medical condition-and Medicare and Medicaid providers cover at least some of the cost of transportation.

Uber as a company has since started different ventures. It ultimately aims to better facilitate transportation for patients and healthcare establishments.
