The London Fire Department is reminding London residents to replace the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they set their clocks ahead Sunday morning.
"Our advice is to push that little red button at least once a month, make sure that works, and then check the batteries twice a year, and time change is a great time to do not forget to do that", said Fire Chief Joseph Kitchen.
Carbon monoxide alarms should be installed where they can be easily heard, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home.
Daylight saving time will end this year on November 4. The group says that any alarms or detectors that are more than 10 years old should be replaced.

"It's important for everyone to make sure their household is ready", said Mike Masto, regional disaster officer in Colorado and Wyoming.

This also would be great time for families to sit down and create a home escape plan.
Every day, 7 people in this country die from a home fire; another 36 people are injured, and home fires cause billions of dollars in property damage every year.
"You want to have a common understanding and meeting plan where everyone should go" in the event of a fire, said Roger Sigular, battalion fire chief with the Jamestown Fire Department. "At least twice a year, conduct a home fire drill at night so the kids recognize the sound of the smoke alarms and teach them to respond instinctively to their signal by exiting the home".
