Students across Chicago area walk out of class Wednesday to protest gun violence

"They did it right, and I'm proud of them".

High school principals in Sumter met with their student government leaders in the days before the event to discuss ways students could express themselves in a peaceful and positive manner. Beyond that, the school supported it, but we didn't make it mandatory.

Today, #Catholic Schools throughout the Archdiocese of Newark took a stand against gun violence by participating in the #NationalWalkoutDay.

Approximately 100 students from the school participated in the National School Walkout calling for stronger gun control.

The New Prague High School student brought a sign reading "Guns don't kill people, people kill people", that prompted his principal, Lonnie Seifert, to escort him off school grounds, the Jordan Independent reported.

At 10:17 a.m., the students all reentered the school and the participating community members went on their way. Students Kathryn Staebler of Jamestown, Olivia Legault of East Greenwich, Cat Brownell of Middletown, Sara McCormick of Wakefield and Bella Bianco of Warwick spearheaded the effort.

At 10am, the students filed out of the WHS front doors, some holding signs that said, "Save Lives, Not Gun", "Fear Has No Place in Schools", and "We Will Be Heard", among other sentiments. She said it was the only way they could involve the entire student body, and show they care about the students who have been killed during school shootings.
