Minnesota Vikings Agree to Terms With Sheldon Richardson

Seahawks reported bringing in veteran DT Tom Johnson for a visit as Vikings continue to woo Sheldon Richardson

What a statement for the Vikes this offseason

A huge season in Minnesota and the Vikings making a deep playoff run would do wonders for his stock in free agency next year.

Here's a quick recap of who has gone where so far.

After the Vikings agreed to terms with quarterback Kirk Cousins that have massive ramifications for the future of contracts in the National Football League, I decided that I was going to write an article about the Vikings management and ownership, essentially thanking them for not only realizing the fact that this team is in the midst of an open window of opportunity but also that they're willing to and attempting to take advantage of that fact by spending a lot of money on blue-chip players.

The Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins put pen to paper on Thursday and made his signing official. Johnson, who has had inquiries from Oakland and Buffalo, might leave Minnesota.

That's about $3 million less than the Seahawks were willing to pay him in the most direct way they could have kept him for one year, the franchise tag.

The reason for the smile stems from the Vikings' representing the ideal fit for Cousins, who signed a three-year, $84 million contract - all of it guaranteed.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals have also added Mike Glennon as a back-up, as reported by Fox Sports' Peter Schrager. The Vikings would like to re-sign Stephen, but he might be better suited to continue in a reserve role. They traded Michael Bennett and waived Richard Sherman, Jeremy Lane and DeShawn Shead to save $19 million in cap room. We all know that Cousins new deal consists of $84 million guaranteed over three years.

"They're hard to find", Denver Broncos general manager John Elway said after introducing Case Keenum as his fifth quarterback since Peyton Manning's retirement just two years ago.

If the quarterbacks were the flavour of the month in the free agency market, there were a couple of significant moves elsewhere. He has thrown for at least 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in three straight seasons.

A Jets castoff got his free-agency deal - just probably not the one he had in mind this time previous year. However, Richardson was dealt due in part to his off-field issues, including a four-game suspension to a violation of the league's substance abuse policy in 2015, and a one-game ban in 2016 for personal conduct.
