Earlier in the day, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya announced the date of the Karnataka Assembly polls ahead of the Election Commission and then deleted the tweet.

Even as the Chief Election Commissioner announced the dates of the highly anticipated Karnataka elections, a storm was brewing.

Election Commission will issue the poll notification on April 17 and the last date to file nomination is April 24.

The last date of scrutiny of nominations was April 25, 2018. Also, the model code of conduct will come into effect immediately.

The BJP is banking heavily on the fact that the state capital remains inadequate in terms of infrastructure, civic amenities and traffic and hopes to tap into the discontent.
