J&K: Militants attack Army's Mobile Vehicle Check Post in Shopian, one killed

Shopian: A terrorist and three others were killed as security forces said they responded to an attack on a mobile vehicle checkpost in south Kashmir's Shopian on Sunday evening.

"Three OGWs/ accomplices in the auto who were accompanying the terrorist were found to be dead", an Army spokesman said.

Following the incident, clashes between surging crowds and security forces erupted in a few Shopian areas, a report said.

Army's Srinagar based defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said that militants attacked army's 44 RR party at Pahnoo village at around 20:00 hours.

The militant has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Dar son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar of Jamnagri Shopian. "Police has reached the spot and started legal formalities", he said.

He said it was being ascertained whether the three youths were associates of the slain terrorist or not.

Shopian, around 60 km away from Srinagar, was on the edge this year ever since two civilians were killed near an encounter site on January 10 and three civilians died in the Army firing in Ganowpora village during a stone pelting incident on January 27.
