Israeli PM questioned for second time in telecom corruption case

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday he hopes to slash flight times between Tel Aviv and India's financial capital Mumbai, days after Air India ran the first scheduled Israel-bound service to cross Saudi airspace.

In a video posted on his Facebook page shortly after being investigated on corruption allegations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that he is "completely confident" of his innocence.

During the morning hours, police questioned star state witnesses Shlomo Filber and Nir Hefetz as well.

Netanyahu is accused of awarding regulatory favours to Bezeq Telecom Israel in return for favourable coverage on a news site which is controlled by the company's owner. His questioning lasted about four hours. Two Netanyahu confidants, a former family spokesman and a former Communications Ministry director, have agreed to testify against the prime minister in exchange for immunity.

Netanyahu is already facing two recommendations for indictment in unrelated corruption cases, in which he strongly denies any wrongdoing. Police declined to comment directly, but in a statement said different interrogations were underway in connection to the case.

The graft scandals have come as Israel's coalition recently averted a crisis that could have led to early elections.
