The move immediately grounded eight aircraft at IndiGo India’s largest carrier and three at GoAirlines

"Hundreds of passengers were stranded after a number of flights were cancelled by both IndiGo and GoAir in the wake of some aircraft going out of operations due to the DGCA order", a source said. The grounded aircraft include 8 IndiGo and 3 GoAir planes. Immediately after getting this directive, IndiGo - which at that time had 32 Neos - had grounded three Neos which had both engines of this specific variant. All passengers have been accommodated in an alternate aircraft, it added. The IndiGo airlines also expressed regret after thousands of passengers who faced inconvenience during the immediate grounding.

On Monday, an IndiGo Airlines neo plane travelling to Lucknow suffered an engine failure mid-air and had to land at the Ahmedabad airport after a full emergency was declared.

The glitch with the so called knife-edge compressor seal is the latest in a series of expensive problems for Pratt in its development of the geared turbofan engine model. All defective components would be replaced by early June, requiring some planes to fly with one affected engine for nearly three more months. After the replacement, the defective engine is sent to the manufacturer and the planes continue to operate with the replaced engines, the report added.

The pilot of flight 6E-244 was forced to turn back a little over 40 minutes after takeoff, making an emergency landing at 10.04am in Ahmedabad. The matter is being investigated by IndiGo Flight Safety team and DGCA. As many as seven departures were delayed.
