Surgery to fix a broken bone in Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar's right foot was successful, the Brazilian football federation said Saturday.

The world's most expensive footballer arrived in Brazil on Thursday and will undergo surgery on a fractured metatarsal and a sprained ankle in Belo Horizonte on Saturday.

"The post-operation rehabilitation will begin immediately under the control of the club's physiotherapist", PSG said in a statement on their website.

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that Brazilian star Neymar could well be using Paris Saint-Germain as a stepping stone for a move to Real Madrid in the future.

"A report will be made in six weeks to clarify when he will return to training".

But if Lasmar's prognosis of a almost three-month wait is true, then Brazil will be scrambling even to get him ready for the World Cup in Russian Federation starting in June.

Neymar has scored 28 goals in 30 appearances for PSG in all competitions since signing from Barcelona for a world-record fee previous year.

Earlier, Paris newspaper L'Equipe reported that PSG believe Lasmar lied about Neymar's condition.

'The operation, conducted by Doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, was successful.

For PSG, the broken bone means saying goodbye to their prize player for the crucial Champions League match against Real Madrid on Wednesday morning (Singapore time).

PSG and Brazil have competing interests in Neymar's case.

That diagnosis was contested by Lasmar, who said it was not a simple fissure, but "a meaningful fracture in a toe in the middle of his foot".

"Internally, we speak with much clarity", Emery said.

"I hope he recovers quickly in time for the Cup", said Mateus Falqueto, 13, who waited outside the hospital in the hope of getting Neymar's autograph.

Runco said Neymar will likely be allowed to walk with crutches after two to three weeks, then exercise while putting weight on his repaired foot after 60 to 75 days.
