Nepal plane crash sees aircraft burst into flames at Kathmandu airport, fatalities feared

The crash was a result of the aircraft making an unexpected turn in cloudy weather, according to Reuters.

According to the Aviation Safety Network, "A thunderstorm was passing the airport with cumulonimbus clouds passing by at 2,500 feet". He says the tower repeatedly asked if the pilot was OK, and the reply was "yes".

In a recording posted by air traffic monitoring website liveatc.net, the pilot asked for permission to land from the north, which an air traffic controller granted.

On Monday the airline's chief executive Imran Asif said there had been a "fumble from the control tower" as the plane approached the airport's single runway. He added that the pilot told flight controllers that everything was going well before landing.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media, said 10 people remained unaccounted for in Monday's crash.

The reason behind the crash of the 17-year old aircraft is yet to be established, but the rescuers and other aviation staffs have recovered the black box of the aircraft.
