The relationship between the students and the shooter's motivation were unclear, Mr. Cameron said.

Just last month, the St. Mary's County sheriff's office said it arrested two teenage boys for "threats of mass violence" and a 39-year-old man on related charges after the teens made threats about a potential school shooting at Leonardtown High School. Sheriff Cameron told reporters at an afternoon press briefing that Deputy Gaskill, a six-year veteran of the force who is in his first year at Great Mills High School, was able to contain the situation within 1 minute of the time the initial shot was sacked.

Minutes later, some of the school's almost 1,600 students were being escorted by an adult behind the main building as first responders continued securing the area.

An armed school resource officer had also been on the campus of Stoneman Douglas at the time of that shooting, and was criticized for failing to stop the gunman, who was armed with an AR-15 assault-style rifle.

The officer was not harmed, Cameron said.

Although developers are limited to only 10MB per instant app, there's room to come up with some innovative formats, Karmel said. Not all games can be played instantly without downloading them, but there are a few titles with this feature already available.

The incident comes less than a month after local news website TheBaynet.com reported that they had received messages from concerned parents about a threat of a shooting circulating the school.

Two students, a 16-year-old female and 14-year-old male, were critically injured.

A teenager with a handgun shot a girl inside his Maryland high school Tuesday before he was fatally wounded during a confrontation with a school resource officer, a sheriff said.

Investigators are now trying to ascertain how Rollins acquired the gun.

Authorities said Deputy Blaine Gaskill intervened nearly immediately.

A reporter at a packed afternoon press conference asked the sheriff if the shooter's death was a suicide.

Cameron indicated that Rollins and Willey may have possibly been in a previous relationship.

"I was in the middle of the hallway, and it sounded like you would pop a bag, so no one took it seriously", one student said.

Willey remains in the hospital in critical condition, while the unidentified male student was listed in fair condition.

"This is what we train for.and this is what we pray we never have to do", Cameron said.

A sheriff's spokeswoman says three people have been injured in a shooting at a high school in southern Maryland, including the shooter. A gun was taken to school, and discharged, and (in this case) somebody died and two people were wounded.

"No parent should have to worry about when they send their kids off in the morning to school whether they are going to come home safely or not", said Gov. Hogan.

"This is a tough guy who apparently closed in very quickly and took the right kind of action", Hogan said of Gaskill. "It's tragic", the governor said of the shooting. "My heart breaks for his family". It occurred just days before a planned Saturday march in Washington calling for new restrictions on guns.
