A chaotic scene broke out at a Louisiana school board meeting after a teacher was arrested, apparently for questioning why the board's superintendent was being given a $38,000 pay raise.
During the public portion comment of the Vermilion Parish School Board's meeting, English teacher Deyshia Hargrave spoke up. "I feel like it's a slap in the face to all the teachers, cafeteria workers and any other support staff we have".
An Abbeville city marshal cut her off and directed her out of the room, despite protest from those in the crowd.
Ms Hargrave appeared to leave the meeting willingly after the officer approached her and asked her to do so, but in the hallway video showed that she was on the ground being handcuffed and asking "what are you doing?" repeatedly.
COOL VIDEO! Alligators poke their noses through ice to survive the cold
Experts said they believed the alligators may have been pets released by their former owners. But that's no problem, according to the park's accompanying blog post .
The board member said what was on the agenda was the superintendent's new contract and members of the audience answer back, "with a raise".
KATC, of Lafayette, had a crew at the meeting and was videotaping it, along with another person who shot video, The Times-Picayune reported.
After the vote, Hargrave - who was permitted to speak by the board - told them, "How are you taking the raise when you are basically taking from the teachers and the employees under you?" While he did not witness everything that led to Hargrave's attest, he "absolutely" stood by the marshal, he said. He told her to "stop resisting", to which she replied, "I am not, you just pushed me to the floor".
"His job is to make sure that we have orderly board meetings, he knows what our policy is and he knows how to handle it", he said.

KATC reports the teacher was booked into jail.
Noting that class sizes had grown, Hargrave told the Vermillion Parish School Board that it was "unspeakable" and "absurd" that the superintendent was getting a raise "when teachers are working this hard, and not even getting a dime".
Hargrave bonded out of jail, The Associated Press reported.
