Washington State QB found dead in apparent suicide

Tyler Hilinski, student and presumptive starting quarterback for the Washington State University Cougars next year, was found dead in his apartment on January 16, apparently by his own hand.

Washington State president Kirk Schulz tweeted, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hilinski family".

Friends and his team member deeply sadden to hear his passing news.

WSU coach Mike Leach: 'He was an incredible young man and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him was better for it'.

Students gathered on the Washington State University campus earlier this week to pay their respects to Hilinski, placing flowers, signs and WSU flags at the base of the Cougar Pride statue.

Hilinski, a redshirt sophomore, took over for Luke Falk in the Holiday Bowl after the starting senior quarterback injured his wrist.

WSU officials released statements Tuesday night regarding Hilinski's death. Bledsoe's son, John, was one of Hilinski's teammates.

Hilinski's teammates and the college football community offered their condolences to the Hilinski family via Twitter.
