Arizona Cardinals: End of an era?

The answer was nearly always the same: "'You just know.'" Palmer said in a letter published by the Cardinals.

On Tuesday, Carson Palmer announced his retirement from football by penning a heartfelt letter.

Palmer has played for the Cardinals for the last five years, starting 60 games.

Palmer was drafted with the first pick in 2003 by the Cincinnati Bengals and played for them for eight seasons before being traded to the Oakland Raiders.

Palmer was reduced to just seven games this season after breaking his left arm. he was placed on injured reserve with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. To wrap up his career, Palmer landed in the Arizona desert in April of 2013 and spurred one of the most successful runs in the history of the Cardinals in that state, accumulating a 38-21-1 record as a starter.

His relationship with the Bengals ended poorly, with Palmer requesting to be traded after the 2010 season. But Johnson and Palmer's injuries as well as other key injuries on offense were crushing.
