4 cops martyred in JeM blast in Sopore

Three policemen lost their lives and two others are seriously injured after an IED blast in Baramulla District's Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning.

The Jash-e-Mohammed militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the English-language Greater Kashmir newspaper.

However, other media reports have said that a police vehicle ran over the IED, triggering the blast.

The IED blast killed 4 cops. Three among the slain were identified as ASI Irshad Ahmad from Doda, Muhammad Amin from Kupwara and Ghulam Nabi and Ghulam Rasool - both residents of Sopore. JeM said its "Afzal Guru Squad" carried out the attack.

Giving details of the incident, ADGP Munir Khan told reporters that shops were closed and vehicles were off roads due to the strike in Sopore when the militants ambushed the police team.
