Ole Miss had hoped to avoid a postseason ban in 2018, but was hit with another year and plans to appeal the decision.

This has been a long and winding road for Ole Miss, which included former coach Houston Nutt claiming the school defamed him by claiming numerous alleged infractions happened during his tenure.

Ole Miss "lacked institutional control and fostered an unconstrained culture of booster involvement in football recruiting", according to the NCAA's Committee on Infractions ruling.

The seemingly never-ending investigation by the NCAA into Ole Miss athletics is finally over - and the football program took the brunt of the penalties.

On Friday, the NCAA gave Ole Miss an additional postseason ban for 2018, stripped the school of two additional scholarships, put it on probation until November 30, 2020 and forced the vacation of wins. As part of self-imposed sanctions, the university already cut 11 scholarships over a four-year period from 2015 to 2018. Freeze also resigned from the school when it was discovered he made several phone calls to an escort service on his university-issued cell phone.

Every coach mentioned in the Notice of Allegations received a show-cause penalty of some timeframe, including former head football coach Hugh Freeze (one year), former assistant athletic director for high school and junior college relations Barney Farrar and former assistant David Saunders, who worked for former coach Houston Nutt and was most recently at Louisiana-Lafayette (2011-14).

Luke had the interim tag removed on Sunday when he was officially named head coach. While I am disappointed that the COI found that I violated the NCAA's head coach responsibilities bylaw in any way, I am relieved to have a final decision.

The school will also give up its share of revenue from any bowl game SEC teams appear in. An assistant coach and operations coordinator also acted unethically when they arranged the fraudulent ACT scores and arranged for a booster to provide housing and transportation to five prospects while they completed the necessary academic work to become eligible for competition. The school met with the NCAA Committe on Infractions in September, and the school is set to release the official findings at some point this morning.
