Firefighters from several departments were called just before 6 a.m. Sunday, according to Brad Hall with the Spartanburg Fire Department.

Officials say the fire was ruled as an accidental electrical fire. Once fire crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the eaves of the house. One person was taken in good condition to Roseland Community Hospital, and two other people refused medical treatment.

"Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time and here we are".

He said the fire spread from to a second auto, then into the house.

Tony Fuentes, the neighbor who reported the fire, told the Sun-Star that the home, along with another vacant residence on the same block, were routinely broken into by homeless individuals for shelter.

The Fire department is asking the public for help.

Investigators don't know how the fire started. "We've had people bringing in towels and shoes and coats and they're wrapping children's Christmas gifts and whatever they need they come through with", said Jeanna Knoll with the Red Cross.

"I was running around, trying to open the windows and everything to get the smoke out, but then they were evacuating and I said 'Oh no, I have to get my mother and son out of there, '" resident Susan Hilliard said.
