Thousands of Saakashvili's supporters marched across Kyiv on Sunday, demanding his release and calling for oroshenko to be impeached.

In July this year, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko revoked Saakashvili's citizenship following allegations that he submitted false information while applying for his Ukrainian passport.

Saakashvili told journalists after the hearing that he planned to continue his political activities with the aim of "constitutional, calm, but very necessary transfer of power in the country", accusing the Ukrainian authorities of corruption and "usurping power".

Judge Larysa Tsokol made a decision to set Saakashvili free.

"There will be no meeting with the vice president of America in Palestine", diplomatic adviser Majdi al-Khaldi told AFP . The annoucement drew criticism from every other member of the UN Security Council at an emergency meeting on Friday.

A court hearing on the case is expected be held in Kiev on Monday.

Saakashvili's lawyer and supporters said on December 9 that the opposition leader had declared a hunger strike to protest his arrest.

"I'm not afraid. I consider myself a prisoner of the Ukrainian oligarchy", Interfax cited Saakashvili as saying.

A crowd of about 200 Saakashvili supporters earlier scuffled with police outside. The group was allegedly planning to overthrow President Poroshenko.

Once outside, Buress continued yelling profanities at the officer, causing a crowd to gather. In a report from TMZ , the comedian allegedly approached the police and asked for an Uber .

Saakashvili, the 49-year-old leader of Ukraine's Movement of New Forces opposition party, was arrested on December 9 in a Kiev apartment on charges, including a cooperation with a criminal organisation.

Tuesday's drama marked the latest chapter in the dizzying career of a man who spearheaded a pro-Western "Rose Revolution" in Georgia in 2003 and fought a disastrous war with Russian Federation five years later that eventually prompted him to flee the Caucasus country. Saakashvili had supported the revolution in Ukraine that ousted Yanukovych; Poroshenko later named him governor of Odessa province. But the two men had a falling out; Saakashvili accused Poroshenko of corruption and subsequently was stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship.

"Putin is winning, he is laughing, he is roaring with laughter", Saakashvili continued, ridiculing the notion that he could possibly be plotting together with the Russian authorities.
