'I Intend To Fight Back': Tavis Smiley Responds To Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Smiley blasted PBS for launching its "so-called investigation" without telling him about it and accused them of having their minds "already been made up" before sitting down with him for three hours and points to the Variety report that came out "almost immediately" after their session ended. "As a result, we are suspending our relationship with Mr. Smiley, pending the outcome of the PBS investigation".

Sources told Variety that the investigation found credible allegations that "Smiley had engaged in sexual relationships with multiple subordinates". MSK looked into the claims by interviewing 10 witnesses "of different races and employment levels in Smiley's organization, majority former staffers". Several expressed concerns about retaliation.

The network said it had indefinitely suspended its distribution of the show after the inquiry uncovered allegations that were "inconsistent with the values and standards of PBS".

Previously videos had to be a minimum of 90 seconds, and the first ad break was allowed to appear after 20 seconds. The news also contains a change to Live Ad Breaks that appears created to address concerns around brand safety.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page Wednesday night, Smiley said he was "as shocked as anyone else by PBS' announcement".

Tavis Smiley speaks at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., in 2012.

Prior to his work at PBS, Smiley hosted a TV show in Black Entertainment Television in 1996, was a commentator for ABC News and CNN, and became the first black man to host a show on National Public Radio, according to CNN Money. He insists he "never groped, inappropriately exposed myself or coerced any colleague in the workplace ever in my 30 year career".

Small Bomb Explodes in New York Subway, 4 Injured
The improvised device was only partially detonated, officials said, characterizing the incident as an "attempted terror attack". He commended first responders and said there were "minor" injuries from the "essentially low tech" explosive device.

This kind of information about Smiley isn't entirely new, as Jacques Hyzagi, former senior producer on The Tavis Smiley Show, wrote in the Observer back in February that Smiley's whole persona was a mask for Tavis' misogyny that was "always creeping around, barely camouflaged by Midwestern good manners in line with the most duplicitous guys who always open doors, buy flowers and carry luggage until their girlfriends end up scrambling for some hotline 800 number".

Smiley's future projects are now up in the air, including a book "Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson's Last Days" and a tour revolving around the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., "Death of a King". You are the person who has the potential power to make or break their career.
