Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that security forces reached the site and successfully completed the operation killing all the suspected militants.

The area where the incident occurred is a hub for educational institutions including the University of Peshawar. The institute was closed for the Eid-e-Milad holiday, but about 70 students were present in the hostel. Mehsud said the terrorists had links inside Afghanistan. The terror group's spokesman, Mohammad Khorasani, said they had targeted a safe house of the military's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, Reuters reported.

The militants also issued photos of the attackers, who they said were from nearby Swat Valley, singing with the movement's fugitive leader, Mullah Fazlullah, before their mission.
