The company confirmed Wednesday that iPhones gradually throttle their own speed over time, in what it said is an attempt to preserve battery life. Introduced past year for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone SE, the feature is aimed at preventing unexpected device shutdowns, the company said.
The batteries in older phones start to lose their oomph, especially if the devices have been repeatedly exposed to extreme temperatures.
Geekbench developer John Poole has mapped out performance for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 over time, and has come to the conclusion that Apple's iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2.0 updates introduce this throttling for different devices. iOS 10.2.1 is particularly relevant, as this update was created to reduce random shutdown issues for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. He also believes - like many other users - that it's just a ploy by Apple to get folks to buy the newest iPhone.
"(But) it is a trade-off.
New York Islanders Arena Proposal Accepted for Belmont Park
NYCFC said it was happy to be a finalist and will continue to look for a site for a new soccer-specific stadium. A spokeswoman for Empire State Development, the state agency that controls the site, declined to comment.
Low Power Mode: In later updates, Apple has included the Low Power Mode feature that notifies the user when the smartphone hits 20%.
iPhone users have long complained their devices seem to slow down when new models are released. Apple charges $79 to replace an iPhone battery that's no longer covered under warranty.
"Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices".
One solution to a faster working iPhone could be purchasing a new battery rather than an entire new phone. Apple was forced to offer battery replacements.
Colin Kaepernick, Steph Curry Want To Buy Carolina Panthers With Diddy
Rivera said he hopes the team stays in Charlotte under any new owner, where it has been since its creation in 1995. A few hours later, rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs said he'd like to buy the team.
The lithium-ion batteries in older devices can't keep up with peak demand for power, Apple says. The tech company says that this feature is now active in the iPhone 7 as well. Drain battery, charge, drain battery, charge - repeat.
John Poole, the founder of software company Primate Labs, wrote on Geekbench, that Apple had itself to blame for this theory taking hold.
If you want to get the most from your phone, try to look after it, don't use it in extreme heat, don't overcharge it - oh, and do NOT charge your phone in extreme heat, that's really going to kick it in the guts.
On the other hand, there's a lot of negative reaction to this information, probably because people think Apple could manufacture higher quality hardware that doesn't see its peak performance decline quite so quickly.
