2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 leaked on magazine cover

First Look: With the new 2019 Corvette ZR1, Chevy builds the best 'Vette yet

With a top speed quoted at "over 210 mph", they're not wrong.

But there's more to this supercar killer than just a bucketload of power. It's the first time the ZR1 has offered two-pedal driving, but don't groan just yet: GM claims the 650-hp Z06 hits 60 miles per hour and runs the quarter-mile in 2.95 and 10.95 seconds, respectively, with the automatic. That not only makes this the fastest Corvette ever built, but also the most powerful General Motors vehicle ever made (which is quite the distinction, considering the company has been around since 1908). However, the peak horsepower is at 6,300 rpm, being 100 rpm lower compared to the 650-hp Corvette Z06. And if you are a fan of the Corvette's exhaust note, the ZR1 gets an all-new system which emits an even more louder note than the Z06. "Centered on its Sebring Orange Tintcoat exterior color, the package also includes orange brake calipers, orange rocker and splitter accent stripes, orange seat belts, orange interior stitching and unique, bronze aluminum interior trim".

According to the SAE-certified testing, the Corvette ZR1 packs 755 horsepower, or 563 kW.

Chevrolet returned the Corvette ZR1 to the lineup for 2009. GM reckons a top speed of "over 338km/h" is possible in this configuration.

A big engine under the lengthy hood of a Corvette is nothing new, but the 2019 Corvette ZR1 does do things a little differently - and more impressively - than the high-displacement cars that came before it.

The engine sits underneath what Chevrolet calls a "halo hood" which features a carbon fibre two-piece bonnet bulge. You can go the low route with the car's standard, fixed Low Wing, which is designed with top speed in mind. This package also includes a front splitter with carbon fiber end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer performance tires, revised chassis tuning, and reworked Magnetic Ride Control suspension calibration.

And if you're still not sure your new Vette will stand out enough, "The Corvette ZR1 introduced today also debuted a dynamic, available Sebring Orange Design Package", Chevy noted.
